Avoid Becoming a Victim Professor Ramos Blog

Avoid Becoming a Victim The definition of swatting is the action of making a prank call to emergency services to dispatching large amount to a particular address. Now, imagine yourself in a scenario, you’re with your family either having dinner or watching television in the living room, whatever you do with your family. Then, all of a sudden multiple loud bangs come from the door with someone shouting â€Å"police department open up!†. Confused on the matter of what’s going on you cautiously open the door with a bunch of shouts and assault rifles with lights pointed at you. Ordering you to get down they arrest you, then proceed to clearing the rest of the house. This outrageous new trend that computer hackers use the swat team as a joke or even threats to the victim has been an issue for more than 6 yrs. These hoax callers aka swatter have targeted numerous of victims such as Youtubers, streamers, celebrity’s, gamers and especially women on social media. People’s privacy s eems to be easily accessible especially from the recent issue of Facebook the ‘Cambridge Analytics data scandal’ in March of 2018. Where companies and politician were buying personal information. This shows that anyone’s information isn’t safe on social media everyone runs the chance of being swatted. Swatting made news coverage back in 2012 when no one really knew how big of a deal it would soon become in the future. Hunter Gelinas was 15 at the time when he first got swatted by the cause of online gaming on the Xbox 360. Through an online dispute, hackers are able to access other victim internet connection using their IP address from a software. Matthew Weigman was 19 years of age at the time he was arrested in Boston Massachusetts being the first to be caught for swatting 50-60 victims. Matthew made a name for himself meeting other hackers that would use their advantage of having access to their personal data to receive phone sex or else. When a woman would refuse phone sex they would â€Å"call the police in her hometown, scrambling the caller ID to conceal his identity†. (Kushner). Matthew saw this as a hobby instead of playing video games or having a social life, he enjoyed having control over others demanding what he desired. An FBI agent soon discovered him when he was a minor but would give him a chance to walk away before he turned 18. (Kushner). Now he has been locked up since 2008 and is serving 11 years in federal prison. The biggest incident was back in 2017 in December where an innocent bystander ended up died from swatting. Andrew Finch a father of two, who was shot at his front door when he moved unexpectedly, in Wichita, Kansas. The suspect, Tyler Barriss that made the hoax emergency call was a Los Angeles resident that was an approximately 1,379 miles apart from Kansas. Andrew Finch died over a game dispute that he wasn’t apart of because Tyler Barriss gave the wrong address. Since his death they passed a bill that would punish hoax callers in Kansas. U.S Rep. Katherina Clark also pushed for a bill against swatters in 2015 for Massachusetts, soon after she would experience a swatting encounter waiting for the approval to pass. U.S Rep. Ted Lieu also pushed for a bill as he too was a victim of swatting back in 2013 for Califor nia. The swatter was identified as Mir Islam, a 22-year-old that targeted celebrity’s and exposing personal data. Clark makes a valued point arguing â€Å"that federal law are needed because incidents like the one that led to Finch’s death occur across state lines† (‘Swatting’ and Punishment). There’s a lot of different laws in other states that would make prosecution a bit difficult figuring out what laws can be applied. Kevin Poulsen knows how hacking works like gathering personal data, credit cards, and tap into phone lines. He’s spent two years in federal prison and soon devoted to writing. He’s known partner’s that have made billions by others person accounts. Poulsen says that its easily to get hack software’s are being developed to make it easy for a user. Deploying the swat team spends $10,000 of handling the situation. Celebrity’s like Rihanna, P.Diddy, Ashton Kutcher and many more in 2013. How I discovered swatting was when watching a YouTuber, Jordan Mathewson aka Kootra, live stream when he says â€Å"I believe we are being swatted†. This was in 2014 when I was 16, in my head I thought it mean as a raid where he was going to get robbed but he seems like he could have been joking until you can see the police burst into the door. Nowadays everyone in any state run the risk of becoming a victim. Especially due to the fact that a bill has to pass after the incident has occurred. A couple ways to avoid being swatted is to not have personal data be on social media. Having your  credit card on auto-renewal on any gaming system would benefit hackers. There aren’t much solutions that would help police department detect whether the call is legit or not. The police force would take their job seriously no matter what. Some agents are cracking down on hackers but there’s still a majority in the states or in a different country. Annotated Bib: Talking about the fatal death of finch it explains a bit of his background. It also explains the whole meaning of swatting in a few paragraphs. I used this to have some more details of how swatting is seen in different ways. Ducharme, Jamie. â€Å"Swatting led to an Innocent Man’s Death in Kansas. Here’s What to Know about It. â€Å"Time.com, 31 Dec.2017, p.1 This article helps me understand of how much can a hacker get a hold of. Hackers are able to shut down electrical devices through their own computer using the internet. Personal data is easily accessible especially company’s. Also how the people have learned the internet since 2005 and taught themselves how to access many things. Kugler, Logan. â€Å"How a Supervillain (or a Hacker in His Basement) Could Destroy The Internet. Communications of The ACM, vol. 59, no.2, Feb, 2016, pp.18-20 This Article was also used to get me more information on Matthew Weigman. His case was informative that he openly admitted all his do wronging. He explained everything form when he was a kid that he enjoyed of what he was doing. â€Å"Individual Pleads Guilty in Swatting Conspiracy Case†, The FBI, Jan 29, 2009. Pay to Play The Perils and Perks of Fee-Based Submissions

Pay to Play The Perils and Perks of Fee-Based Submissions I’ve been freelancing full-time since 2009. In that time I’ve entered (and won) many writing competitions. Some have been free to enter, but I’ve also pursued opportunities that include the dreaded phrase â€Å"fee-based submission.† Some writers balk at the idea of reading fees: to them, forking over a check is like throwing money away. In the other camp are writers who actively seek out publications and competitions that charge fees, seeing those markets as both competitive and prestigious. The Drawbacks of Fees Beyond the obvious cost of writing a check, there are other deterrents to consider when applying to a pay-to-play market. The most troublesome, though relatively rare these days, are the so-called â€Å"scam† markets: unscrupulous contest runners who take your money and run, never declaring a winner (or in other cases, canceling the contest and refusing to refund your fee). Always research the market on Duotrope’s Digest or Poets Writers if you’re not certain about the legitimacy of a publication or contest. Another concern is arguably more philosophical than monetary. Many freelancers today refuse to take jobs that pay little or no money as a matter of principle, believing that doing so perpetuates more markets that underpay and devalue writers. For them, paying to have their work read might just leave them in the red. But on the Other Hand Despite some initial wariness, many pay-to-play markets are absolutely worth considering. Often, literary magazines charge a submission fee, which also includes the cost of a subscription to the magazine. This will provide you with insights about what stories the editors prefer, giving you an edge when you send them your next submission. Other times, particularly with competitions, your fee ensures that the judges will give you specific, detailed feedback about your work, which is quite a valuable perk to writers of any experience level. Moreover, if you make a living solely from writing, you may be able to deduct submission fees on your taxes, as they are part of your work-related communications costs (just like manila envelopes or postage). Speaking of literary professionals, your reading fee is just that: a fee that pays for the time it takes an editor to review your work. That fee could be what keeps your favorite magazine (or non-profit) afloat†¦try thinking of your submission fee as a charitable donation. Finally, there’s the strategic advantage of entering a market with a fee hurdle. Because some writers will inevitably turn up their nose at fee-based markets, the field of competitors may be smaller than for a free-to-enter contest. With so many writers eliminating themselves, you’ve got a better chance at taking top honors. Now What? So, when is it acceptable to gamble with your hard-earned money and time to pay someone to consider your work? Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. Over the years I’ve spent writing, I’ve come to understand that my time is valuable. In essence, all submissions cost you something (time is money, after all.) And even when I’ve entered fee-based competitions and lost, I’ve still been able to find homes for those stories a few months down the line, thanks to feedback I received. Consider this: if you are paying to have your work read

The Israeli Wall Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

The Israeli Wall - Research Paper Example It has also taken a lot of international assistance to bring the situation to an end but this has not been so productive in that all the opportunities to enable the two sides come to a conclusive solution has always been lost because of one way or the other. One of the most spirited international efforts to bring peace in the war torn area was in the 1993 when Oslo accord was signed to pave ways for the two warring sides to strike a deal in ending their differences that has resulted to humanitarian crisis in the area. The Oslo accord was secretly discussed in Norway and the agreements officially signed in the US, Washington DC in the Presence of the then US president Bill Clinton but because of the Intifada war that followed, the intention of the accord hit a dead end and no conclusive resolution was reached. What is the Israeli Wall? Following the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians over Gaza and West Bank, the areas have been demarcated, thought without any consensus from the parties involved, which territory belongs to the Israel and that which belongs to Palestine. The demarcation has always not been taken as a fair consideration by the Palestine and they have developed over time a tendency of advancing terrorism activities in the Israeli infested areas resulting into cycles of casualties year round (Gelvin 62). To avert this notoriety, the Israeli decided to construct a barrier wall that will delimit the Israeli and the Palestine so that they are cushioned form their terrorist activities that have been very devastating. The construction of the will is estimated to be about seven hundred meters long and about eight meters tall consisting of concrete wall, 90% of the constructed wall is an inhibiting fence with a vehicle-barrier trenches that is surrounded by about 60 meter area of wide exclusion area (Gelvin 67). With the reference made by the Israeli human rights organization, they conform that the barrier wall is concentrated in the West Ba nk area and extends along the 1949 armistice line that is between the Israeli and Palestine side of the West Bank. The Israeli wall is not a surprise, they have previously constructed the Gaza strip barrier that delimits Israel and Egypt, and this was constructed in the 1994 and was concluded in 2005 (Kershner 49). The Israeli has developed the tendency of secluding themselves through the barrier wall in cases of foreseeable attack by their enemies. Israeli’s Justification On their side regarding the construction of the wall, the Israeli have insisted that providing protection to their civilian is their responsibility in whatever cost and will do all that is possible to ensure that their civilians are not under coercion, pressure or threats from any quarter and to be specific, the Palestinian terrorism activities. They confirm that since the onset of the second Intifada, the Palestine has attacked the Israeli civilian in several occasions by suicide bombers and that needed to be put under stringent check, otherwise, it was going to be out of control. They say the attacks they have witnessed form the Palestinians since the second Intifada justifies the construction of the wall for the purposes of their civilian protection (Semmerling 104). The Israeli also confirms that since the beginning if the wall’s construction, there has been a significant reduction in the number of the suicide attack from Palestine. With

Creative thinking of business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Creative thinking of business - Essay Example 1). While noting that the social environment can influence the frequency and level of creative behaviour, Amabile points out that creativity involves the production of novel, practical, and helpful ideas in any domain (Amabile 1996, p. 1). She further notes that the idea or product may not be different from their counterparts for merely the sake of being different. Instead, it should be relevant to the goal so desired, of value, correct, or meaningfully expressive. In respect to innovation, Amabile notes that it relates to the successful implementation of creative ideas within a business (Amabile 1996, p. 1). An analysis of Amabile’s definition of innovation reveals that the innovation begins by the creativity of a group or individual. Worth noting at this point is the fact that the success of an innovation not only depends on the creative ideas that apply to it but also on other factors and influences external to the organization. The don is also quick to note that creativity goes beyond intelligence and can be applied in any domain (science or art). Creative ideas and innovations can be good or bad (Amabile 1996, p. 1) or may be applied toward negative ends in as much as they may be good. Many business experts appreciate the notion of entrepreneurship being the application of creative destruction. What this basically means is that the entrepreneur pursues an idea and pursues it to make a profit overcoming obstacles to the creative process and therefore destroying existing equilibrium in the market or industry in which they operate. For entrepreneurs, creativity and innovation go together (Ekvall 1987, p. 56). The entrepreneur may apply creativity (and innovation) in developing new product/services, obtaining production resource, delivering products, identifying new markets for business services or products, and coming up with new ways of

The Simple Gift and Drifters Essay Example for Free

The Simple Gift and Drifters Essay An individual’s experience of belonging is invariably affected by their previous encounters with their environment and the people with whom they interact. This is clearly presented within the texts analysed. In the novel â€Å"The Simple Gift† by Steven Herrick the author successfully demonstrates the power of past experiences to both limit and enrich an individual’s sense of belonging to both their surroundings and influential people. Similarly in the poem â€Å"Drifters†, Bruce Dawe conveys the idea of constant change preventing people connecting and belong to a community or place. Steven Herrick demonstrates that a single event in our past can greatly affect they way in which we interact and perceive our environment†¦link†¦ This is clearly focused upon through the anecdote of Old Bill’s daughter’s death. Through the emotive visual imagery and use of ellipses I was there for hours mad with rage and pain and God knows that tree fell †¦Ã¢â‚¬ the author insightfully shows that grief and heartbreak can destroy a persons affinity with well known surroundings†¦link†¦ Herrick suggests, that with the perception of change of an individual’s environment through a physical transformation, their mental state may have a corresponding change. This is further reinforced through repetition in the metaphor â€Å"Fell and I fell with her and I’ve been falling ever since†. Symbolising Old Bill’s increasing disenchantment with the world as the passing of time since ‘the fall’, accumulating with the revelation of Old Bill’s current lifestyle. Through this notion Herrick intelligently reflects upon how one moment in life can destroy one’s sense of belonging to previous role†¦link†¦ The power of the past is also shown by Herrick in the chapter â€Å"A project†. The author intelligently develops a tone of hopefulness through the repetition of â€Å"promise† in â€Å" I promised her we’d go and I promised her we’d swim together†. The composer cleverly harnesses this to suggest the imminent completion of â€Å"Jessie’s trip† and the corresponding need of Old Bill to reconnect with the world in which he lives †¦link†¦ this notion is further depicted through the use of metaphor within â€Å"Jessie’s trip to the ocean† The composer effectively reinforces Old Bill’s wish to reintegrate himself and belong to a community by revisiting the past through the fulfillment of the trip planned between himself and his daughter†¦link†¦this clearly presents the idea of past experiences affecting not only the individuals ability to disconnect to a lifestyle but also reconnect to an extent. Divergent to the ideas presented by Herrick in The Simple Gift, Bruce Dawe suggests constant changing can affect an individual’s sense of belonging due to the inability to connect as a result of the short period of time afforded to them to create bonds. This is shown through the use of visual imagery and onomatopoeia â€Å"and when the loaded ute bumps down the drive past the blackberry canes with their last shrivelled fruit† conveying the idea of the hardships which can be caused by the inability to connect to people and place. The symbolism of the â€Å"bump† displays the difficult journey anticipated by the narrator due to previous failed attempts to develop a sense of belonging to her home. Further emphasized through the morbid visual imagery of the shriveled fruit intimating the lack of time spent preventing her from belonging and symbolizing the end of her connections to another community. Furthermore Dawe harnesses stanza structure and dialogue to illustrate this notion of the need for time to establish connections to an environment. The epetition of â€Å"and† at the beginning of multiple lines in the first stanza and â€Å"she† in the second stanza further emphasizes the idea of a perpetual cycle of negativity and sense of disconnectedness to her surrounding because of the frequent moving of home. Extending upon this concept is the use of the dialogue â€Å"Make a wish, Tom, make a wish. †. The composer shows the woman’s wish to gain a permanent residency to which she can create a sense of belonging. This connotation of hope additionally reinforces the concept of constant change preventing the establishment of belonging to a place.

Why Is Religion Important :: essays research papers

Why is Religion Important? Religion is the one element of life that has connected the races and societies of the world for hundreds of years. It has given meaning to lives that may seem otherwise hopeless. Religion has provided for a universal language and culture among those who believe in a higher power. The spirit or being receiving the worship and praise may not be the same, but the practices are usually similar and serve the same purpose--to give direction, insight, courage, and a divine connection. In today's world, there are many different ways to get involved in religion; various methods have attracted groups of all ages and races. One popular association is FCA or Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This particular group has helped me to find Christ in my own life. There are a lot of unconventional activities to help the younger generations get involved. Some of these activities included Death Week, which focused on death and pain, meetings about family and divorce, lectures to help people reach for their goals, and encouragement speakers. There is a great deal of fun incorporated into all the seriousness, though. We went on ski trips, did missionary work, and put on skits. All of these activities involved Christ in some way, and helped the younger generation to realize that being spiritual was not 'uncool.'; When I attended the FCA meetings, it was the one time that I actually felt free from all my problems. FCA helped me to find my spiritual self and gave me a sense of compl etion. Religion is the main source of morals and values today. I feel like many people today are not following the word of God. I think that religion is overlooked, and not taught enough. For example, colleges, high schools, and many other places are not even allowed to pray, teach or preach the word of the bible. I feel like that is a problem in the United States today. It has had the effect of more violence, problems in families, and the non- education of the younger generation. I feel that though religion is choice, it should be introduced, because many don't even get the opportunity to learn about it.

What Are The Kinds Of Water Pollution Environmental Sciences Essay

Water is one of the chief beginnings in the Earth. It is a really of import resource for people and the environment. Our blood consists of H2O and we can non populate without H2O. We need H2O in our life daily because it is a line of life. We chose this study about the H2O pollution because the H2O is really of import component we need to populate, but human, mills and ships play an of import function in H2O pollution. Clean H2O is increasing devastation because people do non care what throw in the H2O and the Earth is traveling to acquire destroyed. If destroyed clean H2O, life will be much worse on the land and the lone 1s who can forestall this from go oning and for us. Definition: Water pollution can be defined in many ways. Normally, it means we have built one or more substances in the H2O up to the extent that they cause jobs for the animate being or human being. This stuff is chemical, physical and biological alteration in the quality of H2O has an inauspicious impact on our lives. Was detected by H2O taint in the research lab, where they are analyzed little samples of H2O for assorted contaminations. It can besides populating beings such as fish that is used to observe H2O pollution. Changes in behaviour or growing show us that the H2O in which they live contaminated. Labs besides use the computing machine so find if the H2O has no drosss Classs: Point Beginnings of Water Pollution: The beginnings of H2O pollution and discharges include municipal H2O intervention works, drainage and industrial installations. Can the municipal intervention works point beginnings of pollution, sewage contribute to the signifier of oxygen-depleting substances and stuffs nutrient caused wellness hazards in the countries of imbibing H2O and swimming. Some illustrations of the non-point H2O pollution are exchange agricultural and exchange urban countries from excavation, and building locations.. Non Point Source Water Pollution: In contrast to the pollution from a beginning other than the specific industrial workss and sewerage intervention, ( NPS ) pollution comes from many beginnings is widespread. And do taint of atomic power beginnings by rainfall or thaw snow, and during the motion on the land. While the overflow moves, it picks up contaminations and carries off natural and semisynthetic, and eventually deposited in lakes, rivers, wetlands and coastal Waterss and groundwater. 40 % of all lakes and watercourses of H2O contaminated with a really used for fishing or swimming in the United States. Oil and unsafe toxins and pathogen taint of waterways and imbibing H2O, and can kill worlds, animate beings and workss. Non point beginning pollution is the taking staying cause of H2O quality jobs. The effects of nonpoint beginning pollutants on specific Waterss vary and may non ever be to the full assessed. However, we know that these pollutants have harmful effects on imbibing H2O supplies, diversion, piscaries and wildlife. Groundwater pollution: The groundwater pollution is the 1 of the H2O pollution and its importance parts to explicate it because groundwater is the importance beginning for the people in most universes and I will desiccation the beginning for pollution of groundwater. One of these possible beginnings of groundwater pollution: Natural: The pollution of natural substances by taint grounds such as the presence of gustatory sensation and odor in the H2O Wellss, the presence of musca volitanss in the H2O and find of unacceptable consequence in the degrees of substances found in H2O. Besides this causes the natural dirt or stone status. To prevention this job by if possible, avoid countries where there are jobs in groundwater, usage of treated H2O and Change to public H2O supply, if executable. Agribusiness: Pollution of groundwater by chemical spills, fertilisers and pesticides. So I will explicate the fertilisers, Contamination Evidence by High nitrate degree in good H2O trials this it causes over fertilisation and Ill- timed application. To Prevention by fertiliser usage in times that needed by the works and clip when hive awaying carnal manure to ease the airing of the Earth. Industrial: Such as building digging this show by Spills and alteration in colour, gustatory sensation and odor or the presence of drosss in H2O Wellss near. This job causes: Fuel and chemical spills, inordinate dust and chemicals are falsely. To Prevention by follow the cleansing processs and utilize fuel and risky stuffs harmonizing to the recommended actions. Residential: Such as infected systems this Contamination Evidence is appearance waste above surface land and sensing presence bacteria addition of. This Causes failing in the installing or care and disposal of family chemicals such as pigment waste. For trade this job by proper installing tools for the exchange of wellness, cheque and clean tools every 2 to 4 per twelvemonth and non dispose of chemicals in wellness systems. Causes of H2O pollution: Oil spills Oceans are polluted by oil on a day-to-day footing from oil spills, everyday transportation, run-offs and dumping. Oil waste can foul the ocean. They are coming from leaking storage armored combat vehicles and grapevine leaks, and the Wellss. Oil spilled from ships and oilers includes the transit fuel used by the vass themselves or their ladings, such as rough oil, fuel oil, or heating oil. It is estimated that about 706 million gallons of waste oil enter the ocean every twelvemonth. Drilling and production operations and spills or leaks from ships or oilers typically contribute less than 8 per centum of the sum. The balance comes from everyday care of ships ( about 20 per centum ) , and natural ooze from the seafloor ( over 8 per centum ) . Marine Dumping Many mills are dumping of waste into coastal Waterss such as plastics and other stuffs. These wastes take a long clip to degrade and they are really harmful to marine life. The disposal of wastes into H2O by worlds was practiced universally because it was a inexpensive and convenient manner to free society of nutrient wastes ( e.g. , cleaned carcases, shells, etc. ) , rubbish, excavation wastes, and human wastes ( or sewerage ) . This Industrial Age brought with it the new job of chemical wastes and byproducts: these were besides normally disposed of in the H2O. By the early 1970ss, marine dumping began to be viewed as a serious environmental issue. Industrial waste Industry is a immense beginning of H2O pollution, it produces pollutants that are highly harmful to people and the environment. Many industrial installations use fresh water to transport away waste from the mills and into rivers, lakes and oceans. There are 370,000 mills use large saddle horse of fresh water to transport off many types of waste. The waste H2O is put into watercourses, lakes, or oceans. Besides, the hot H2O from mills will increasing H2O temperatures and do thermic pollution. The addition of temperature change the sum of O dissolved in the H2O. That will kill some works and carnal species and others species will overgrowth. Pesticide A pesticide is any substance or mixture of substance intended for preventing, destructing, driving or extenuating any plague. Pesticides are a serious unsafe to wildlife and marine life. At high doses they non merely kill insects and other invertebrates, but birds and mammals every bit good. Many pesticides are soluble in H2O.The higher the solubility of the pesticide, the higher the hazard. High degrees of rainfall increases the hazard of pesticides polluting H2O. Pesticides that get applied to farm Fieldss and waysides and place run away into local watercourses and rivers or run out down into groundwater, polluting the fresh H2O that fish swim in and the H2O we worlds drink. In the Midwestern United States, a part that is extremely dependent on groundwater, H2O public-service corporations spend $ 400 million each twelvemonth to handle H2O for merely one chemical-the pesticide Atrazine. Global Heating An addition in H2O temperature can ensue in the decease of many aquatic beings and interrupt many marine home grounds. For illustration, a rise in H2O temperatures causes deceasing of coral of reefs around the universe. This can ensue in great harm to coral reefs and later, all the marine life that depends on it. Temperature alterations in coastal and Marine ecosystems will act upon being metamorphosis and alter ecological procedures such as productiveness and species interactions. Speciess are adapted to specific scopes of environmental temperature. As temperatures change, species ‘ geographic distributions will spread out, species that are get downing to migrate or vie with other species for resources.Species that are unable to migrate or vie with other species for resources may confront local or planetary extinction. Measurement of H2O pollution: For the analysis of H2O and measured in several ways such as taking sampling, physical, chemical and biological. I will be explicating this ways of measuring of H2O pollution. Physical testing Trials physical Joint H2O includes heat, focal point solids and turbidness. So will explained turbidness. Turbidity is sum of particulate affair that is suspended in H2O. Turbidity measures impact dispersing that suspended solids on visible radiation: badness light big scattered, rose turbidness. Materials which grounds H2O to be Turbid include: clay silt divided finely publish organic and inorganic runing vehicles organic colored plankton objects microscopic Chemical testing Can be found on samples of H2O utilizing the rules of analytical chemical science. Published several trial methods are available for organic compounds and inorganic alike. Often used methods include pH, biochemical O demand, chemical O demand, foods ( nitrate and phosphorus compounds ) and metals ( including Cu, Zn ) , pesticides. Biological testing Be proving ways to utilize workss and animate beings and indexs for supervising the wellness of H2O and microbic environment. Consequence of H2O pollution: 1-Effects of Oil Pollution and Antifreeze Oil is the most unsafe H2O pollutants as oil spilled into the H2O cause in the formation of gluey bed on the surface which lead to the issue of an unpleasant order and this causes the violent death of the beings that depend on this beginning of imbibing H2O. 2-Contaminated Ground Water Effects Groundwater the chief beginning of imbibing H2O on the Earth, and the taint of this H2O is a major menace to human life is cause human exposure to disease may hold serious cause such as disease and decease in the liver and kidney jobs, malignant neoplastic disease and other diseases. 3-Effects of Agricultural Water Pollution The usage of fertilisers and chemicals is defined by husbandmans to better and develop farms and agricultural Fieldss to assist workss turn, but there is a danger of the stuff in that it leaked into the dirt and when rain Aogerian H2O above the surface of this rich dirt these chemicals it is washed to the cloacas and rivers and lakes, which leads to the accretion of contaminated deposits in these Waterss. 4-Fertilizers and other chemicals Melting compound of nitrates in the H2O and metal Cd found in fertilisers used for harvests to the outgrowth of diseases in worlds such as being diarrhoea and diseases of the liver and kidneys. And inorganic stuffs such as quicksilver, lead stuffs, lead to jobs related to gustatory sensation and odor and alter the colour of the H2O. The pesticides and PCBs toxic substances used in pesticides that are found in places, agribusiness, are besides found in merchandises such as wood preservatives. 5-Effects of Thermal Water Pollution This happen because they wash the machine of the factors in the H2O of lakes and rivers. This machine really hot so its heated the H2O, and this is job is that H2O reduces the ability of the system on the continuance of O and raises the growing of warm-water species. 6-Effects of Heavy Metal Water Pollution Heavy metals such as quicksilver and lead found in H2O beginnings. Solutions: As we saw antecedently there are many effects of H2O pollution, and to cut down this effects or seeking to forestall this jobs we must happen some solutions such as: Water pollution control in the place, utilizing stuffs from non-toxic cleansing merchandises are free from toxic substances and to forbear and to cut down to the extent possible the usage of pesticides in the place and gardens. Always dispose of pigments, motor oils and toxic chemicals in ways that a healthy and safe. 3- Always protect and clean groundwater as the chief beginning for imbibing and irrigation systems and forestall the reaching of a chemical. 4- Raise consciousness of the extent of H2O pollution measure and demand that the Government promote more sustainable agriculture techniques. Decision: Water is really of import component we need to populate and it is portion of our lives. Oil spills, industrial waste, pesticide and planetary heating are cause H2O pollution. These will destruct the H2O we drink and will destruct our lives. To forestall H2O pollution we should supply rigorous punishments for people or mills who try to foul the H2O. To reason, we should maintain our environment clean to populate safe without any pollution by do n't utilize more pesticides and do n't throw the trash on the H2O such as the industry trash.

Math Lab Evaluation Paper

The Math lab evaluation Have you ever been to a place that is depressing, gloomy, and absolutely apathetic? If not then by all means make a point to go by and visit the math lab. As a student of the University of South Alabama I have been asked to evaluate the math lab by my supervisor. My supervisor had received various complaints by students, for that reason I have been asked to observe the math lab record what I saw and write down any suggestions for change. During this evaluation I will discuss the pros and cons of the environment in the math lab. This evaluation will serve a purpose for both present and future math students. As you enter the fifteen hundred square foot room the first thing you will see is approximately fifty computers on your right against the wall and in the center of the room there are ten round tables with six computers on each one, some of which are designated for testing only as for the others they are used for classes. There are a total of one hundred and f ifty computers. The room has several spaces separated by temporary partition walls that do very little to block sounds and serve very little purpose. There are student workers walking around that tutor the students as needed. There are also many students throughout the room at their individual computer station. At the time of my observation there were no classes in progress and all the professors were in their office, which are located at the far end of the lab. The math labs hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from nine am to nine pm and nine am to five pm on Friday they are closed on Saturday but open again on Sunday from three pm to nine pm. Although there is not a class in session you will still see students working to fulfill their required minutes in the math lab that has been assigned every week by their professor.Tutors and instructors are available during all operating hours to assist students. Students appear to be unable to focus due to various distractions like the constant noise of some of the math tutors joking with one another and the lights flickering throughout the room is also very distracting. The computers are located only a foot or so apart so if anyone were to sit next to you and make any type of movement like simply erase something or write, shakes the whole table. The sound of students that are coming and going throughout my observation because it is a work at your pace type of curriculum. The temperature in the lab was sixty five degrees which for a cold nature person would be uncomfortable making it difficult to study comfortably for a long period of time. Some of the rules that are enforced within the math lab are as follows no cell phones, no eating, no drinking, and no music. I would make the following changes in the math lab to make it a more productive and studious environment.Starting with the noise level of the room I would make the tutors aware of the complaints because of their actions and the effect on students they have caused. Secondly I would space the computers further apart that are against the walls. I would also add individual partition walls between each computer therefor blocking routine noises made by working students. This also provides privacy when trying to concentrate and study making the students more comfortable and able to work quietly. I would raise the temperature in the room to seventy two degrees which is an ideal temperature.Although rules are very necessary It is a fact that music can help students retain and comprehend knowledge for that reason I would change the rule and allow students to listen to music but only with individual ear buds. The suggestions were implemented and students agreed that the privacy of the individual spaces made it a much more enjoyable learning environment; they were able to get more accomplished in a shorter amount of time. The tutors were more respectful and worked hard to be very helpful to the best of their ability. Allowing the students t o listen to music helped them to focus and not to feel so stressed when working. The temperature was set at seventy two degrees. Students and faculty both agree that it was an ideal temperature. The lights were fixed and no longer flicker furthermore they do not cause any more distractions. The room is no longer a gloomy dreadful place nor is it apathetic but now the atmosphere is enjoyable. Students no longer dread going to the math lab and their grade averages have continued to go up. So overall I would have given it a C minus before any changes were implemented but after I would give it an A after seeing the positive results.

Justice in the Old World essays

Justice in the Old World essays Imagine living in ancient Babylon or Israel. Which would be better to live in, a monotheistic society with solid values, or a harsh, polytheistic society with many strict laws? while the cultural values of these two societies were not all that different, the way religion was viewed made the judicial process differ greatly in ancient Babylon and Hebrews. Babylonians were polytheistic showing the impact the two surrounding rivers in their lives. The Babylonians were a semi-secular society, worshiping their many gods to bring prosperity to themselves. When the rivers rose and flooded the flats, the Babylonians assumed the gods were angry; seeking retribution, they prayed, worshipped, and sacrificed to their many gods. Having many gods may not have been the answer to their problems, however, for with many gods comes many views of life, how it should be lived, and how justice should be carried out. When Hammurabi ¡s code was published and established, Babylon was finally made uniform in judicial code. With so many gods, most of whom had different views, many people may have taken it upon themselves to do things that may not have been socially acceptable. With many harsh rules in place, a law was established that would ensure 'just ¡ punishment under law. The Hebrew society, on the other hand, was a monotheistic one, which made it possible to make a uniform code of conduct as well as a uniform judicial system-all of which was described in the Torah. Because everyone believed in the same things, everyone could agree on the code of conduct, based on honor and respect towards one another and God, or Yahweh. With monotheism, everyone knew what to expect; everyone knew what was expected. The few cultural/social problems the Hebrews had were basic things: fidelity, honor towards elders, etc.; only a few things were odd, but reasonable, such as eating  ¡clean ¡ food, cloven of hoof, chewer of cud. Even these things aren ¡t all that o...

Word Choice Discrete vs. Discreet

Word Choice Discrete vs. Discreet Word Choice: Discrete vs. Discreet You know those times when your friend has a massive zit on their face but you don’t say anything because you don’t want to embarrass them? That’s called â€Å"being discreet.† Or should that be â€Å"discrete†? No, it shouldn’t. But many people confuse these terms due to the fact that they sound  identical when spoken. It’s therefore worth taking a minute to run through what these words mean and how to use them correctly in your work. Discreet (Careful or Prudent) As suggested above, the correct term to use when describing something which has been done to avoid embarrassment, or to keep something confidential, is â€Å"discreet†: When I went to the clinic, the nurses were very discreet. Until you left. Then they laughed about your genitals. [Photo: OnCall team/Vlastimil]It can also be used to describe something designed to be subtle, or not attract attention: The pattern on the lapels is complemented by discreet stitching on the collar. â€Å"Discreet† is related to the quality of â€Å"discretion†, although â€Å"discretion† can also mean â€Å"freedom to make decisions† and â€Å"discreet† is not used in this sense. Discrete (Separate or Distinct) When something is â€Å"discrete†, it is separate or distinct from other similar things: Wagner’s Ring Cycle is divided into four discrete parts, played in series. The valkyries were anything but discreet. â€Å"Discrete† also has some specific, technical meanings, though these tend to be related to the idea of being â€Å"distinct† or â€Å"separate.† Discrete mathematics, for instance, is a field of math that focuses on discontinuous structures (e.g., integers, graphs and logical statements). Discreet or Discrete? As you can see, these terms have very distinct meanings (you might even say that they’re â€Å"discrete†). As such, you should take care to use them correctly in your work. When describing a situation in which someone is being secretive or careful not to cause offense, the correct term is â€Å"discreet† (e.g., â€Å"You can tell me your secret. I’m very discreet.†) When you’re describing something which is separate from other similar things, the term to use is â€Å"discrete† (e.g., â€Å"Any machine can be broken down into its discrete components.†) Remember: Discreet = Careful/subtle Discrete = Distinct/separate

Writting comparison and contrast Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Writting comparison and contrast - Essay Example The pre-lapserian innocence is an affordable luxury for Belloc and his contemporaries, but to the generation of McCarthy there is no reason to be incurably optimistic; this is perhaps the most visible of contrasts between the two writers. The locale of the "The Path to Rome" is more or less homogenous topography of Europe that is connected by climate, by the predominant European ethnicity and the Christian religion in different form. In contrast, McCarthy's "The Road" has the whole world for its locale. The world of the "The Road" is varied in climate, barren by the work of man himself and had been home to divergent ethnicity and religious faith. Though both McCarthy and Belloc share the same Catholic heritage, the traces of the former's Catholic loyalty are hardly visible while that of the latter stands out as a champion of Catholicism. There is convergence in the attitudes of both writers that the ultimate solutions to the problems of the world would come through man's faith in God. The faith in God, which Mathew Arnold lamented in the "Dover Beach" as an eroding phenomenon, is perhaps the only sustaining power in a world is the key point iterated by Belloc and McCarthy. Though both works, by their title might evoke a feeling of a travelogue through the roads, Belloc's work is the recapture of a genuine journey that he made to Rome. " The Path to Rome" is the story of the pilgrimage made on foot to fulfill a vow he made "to see all Europe which the Christian faith has saved" In Christian tradition such pilgrimages were not adventure trips but exercises in faith. The path to Rome that too on foot, in a spirit of contemplation and prayer made Belloc see the Europe that Christian faith had made. There is a quality of innocence in his musings and the language is naturally poetic as he makes his ruminations of the places that he saw and the experiences that he relished. "Beneath the bridge there tumbled and swelled and ran fast a great confusion of yellow water: it was Tiber. Far on the right were white barracks of huge and hideous appearance; over these the Dome of St.Peter's rose and looked like something newly built. It was a delicate blue, but made a metallic contrast against the sky". In contrast to this McCarthy's "The Road" is not the literary production of a man of faith or that of the zealot of Catholicism. If the vignettes painted by Eliot in "Wasteland" shocked and disturbed the sensibilities, "The Road" of McCarthy gave the apocalyptic vision of the final days. While, Belloc glorified the achievements of Christendom in a narrow region of the world, McCarthy's arena is the whole would at the final days of man's existence. Belloc's colorful vision of the Europe as it unfolded before him made him poetic, McCarthy also makes brilliant poetry out of material that are grim, gruesome and bizarre. Though he has never celebrated the sunny side of life in his fiction, in "The Road", he crafts the delineation of hell on earth and by the use of his brilliant prose he makes the grim material models of enduring poetry. Unlike, the journey of Belloc through snow covered mountain passes, fringed by the vineyards of Italy, where hospitable rustic flock greeted him, gave him warmth of human company, freshly baked bread, the wine to
